One does not need an elaborate theme to keep the attention of the audience arrested. A simple theme of 'parking' is sufficient if one can garner a talent to weave a tight narrative around it. The 2023 release Tamil film, Parking, is a vividly appealing narrative that manages to sustain the interest for the full length.
Starring M.S. Bhaskar (as Ilamparuthi) and Harish Kalyan (Eshwar) in the lead, the movie is set in a regular suburb of Chennai. The two tenants come to a clash when the issue of parking within the compound space arises. Ilamparuthi is an elderly government employee, one who conforms to showing discipline in terms of money. Eshwar, on the other hand, has a different theory and indulges in spending a bit beyond strength for his own happiness and comfort.
The mounting of insecurities and ego begins to build up as soon as Eshwar invests on a car. A mere unintentional scratch on the car by Ilamparuthi eventually ends up in a chain of events that magnify how the two men respond and react just to claim authority over a parking space within the compound space.
The entire narrative is fixed in this drama of a full-blown ego clash between the two men. The story brilliantly manages to showcase how the women, the supposed ‘burden’ of men, become inconsequential when the men take it to their egos. It is perhaps this simple premise that makes Parking an effective movie. The cast is well-chosen and the director, Ramkumar Balakrishnan, has executed an effective story.
This movie is certainly worth a watch.
Looks interesting. Will try and watch
